India’s stainless steel industry need strong protections against the growth of low-cost imports. Jindal Stainless MD Abhyuday Jindal urges government action to protect local manufacturers and promote high-quality Indian stainless steel production.
The managing director of , Abhyuday Jindal, has demanded immediate precautions to shield India’s indigenous sector from the growing danger of low-cost imports. He said India already has enough steel-making capacity to meet all local needs and must act fast to stop unfair trade practices.
Jindal addressed the value of safeguarding regional players while speaking at a function hosted by the Indian Chamber of Commerce. He pointed out that not just the US and Europe, but even countries with minimal steel production—like those in the Middle East and Canada—are now taking protective steps to guard their industries.
“The US has done it. For a long time, Europe has been doing it. Now even places like the Middle East and Canada, which hardly produce steel, are also taking action. It’s time we do the same to protect our country,” Jindal said.
He welcomed the government’s recent steps in support of the steel sector but emphasized the need to go further. Jindal highlighted that substandard especially from China routed through Vietnam, continues to hurt Indian manufacturers.
“Our government is looking at this seriously. Actually, we can produce of any grade or quality in India due to our ample capacity. There’s no need to rely on poor-quality imports,” he said.
As the President of the Indian Chamber of Commerce, Jindal’s comments reflect growing concerns within the industry about the impact of low-cost imports on domestic production and employment.
