Mexico considered to extend the import tariffs on certain steels from China and other countries that didn''t have trade agreements.
It''s reported that the current 15% tariff applies to imported flat steel embryos, cold-rolled coils, hot-rolled coils, heavy plate and wire rods.
The tariff was first levied in October 2015 for a period of 6 months with multiple extensions. Mexico Economic Secretariat renewed the six-month temporary tariff in October last year. The existing tariff would expire in April this year.
Mexican integrated steel manufacturer, Altos Hornos de Mexico (AHMSA), indicated that Mexico should impose similar tariffs on countries that didn''t have trade agreements with it.
