JFE steel purchased scrap from the east Japan and west Japan markets. It was expected that JFE steel''s scrap procurement would support the domestic scrap market, which has experienced a sharp decline recently. However, the impact of procurement on the market might be limited as it was expected to have limited purchase volume.
The steel mills in Keihin, eastern Japan began purchasing scraps last week, while the east Japan mill purchased about 10,000 tons of P&S scrap each month.
The steel mills in Kurashiki, western Japan, would begin purchasing scrap on April 11th. The steel mills in western Japan also purchased about 10,000 tons of P&S scrap. However, it was pointed out that some of the production facilities in the Kurashiki area were out of order and would be produced in the near future according to the conditions of the facilities.
The procurement was likely to be performed by spot contracts at the end of April.
